UK weather: Britons brace for cold snap as persistent rain batters areas in southeast

While most of the UK should experience a lighter weekend with occasional sunny spells, the southeast is set to be battered with yet another rainy day, the Met Office has said. The bout of rain will ease only in the far southeast, though possibly lasting throughout Saturday.

The meteorological office stated: “Mostly dry elsewhere with sunny spells and only scattered showers, dying out from the northwest.”

The Met Office predicted winds to turn next week, however, as the south is set to enjoy dry and lighter days, with showers spreading to the north.

They said: “Dry in the south Sunday but rain and strong winds spreading across northern areas.

“Rain clearing south on Monday, blustery showers following, especially for eastern areas.

“Turning colder everywhere.”

More snow showers are predicted over the next 10 days, with two inches forecast to hit the mountains.

It will come during a week of changeable weather in the UK, with gales predicted to make landfall in the northeast of the UK starting from Monday.

The Met Office long range forecast expects more unsettled weather to hit the UK.

It said: “A generally unsettled start to this period across the UK, with showers or more persistent rain alternating with drier and brighter spells.

“Cloud and rain will most likely spread from the west or southwest at times, with eastern areas perhaps drier on average.

“Into October, the unsettled regime is likely to continue dominating the UK weather.

“Low pressure systems will bring showers or longer periods of rain to most parts of the country, with the highest rainfall expected in the west and northwest.”
