Piers Morgan rages at Oprah ‘hypocrisy’ for Sussex reconciliation hopes: ‘You started it!’

Oprah Winfrey has come under by Talk TV’s Piers Morgan for comments she made regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s stance within the Royal Family. Amid a reported ongoing feud within the Royal Family, notably between brothers Prince Harry and the new Prince of Wales, William, Oprah has been quoted as hoping the two can set aside any differences once and for all in the wake of Her Late Majesty’s death.

And reconciliation did become a major talking point over the weekend when the Prince and Princess of Wales joined Harry and Meghan Markle to peruse the floral tributes left outside Windsor Castle.

It has been reported that William was the one to offer the olive branch to Harry at a time when he and Meghan are forging a life for themselves in the USA.

However, much of the rift claims stemmed from remarks made by Meghan and Harry in a tell-all interview with Oprah back in March of last year, in which they made damning comments about the Royal Family.

But now, after seeing the brothers step out with their wives following the Queen’s death, Oprah told Extra: “Well, this is what I think… I think in all families – you know, my father passed recently, this summer, and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there’s an opportunity for peacemaking.

“And hopefully, there will be that,” she added, outlining her desire to see Harry and Meghan integrated in some way back into the Royal Family now his father King Charles III is on the throne.

But Piers wasn’t less than impressed with Oprah’s “hypocrisy” when he discussed her comments with guests Petronella Wyatt and Lady Victoria Hervey on his Talk TV show, Uncensored, on Tuesday.

“Let’s talk for a moment, Oprah Winfrey popped up yesterday in an interview,” Piers began.

“She popped up saying she hopes that this family – that the death of the Queen can help heal the rifts the Royal Family.

Petronella then said it wasn’t “Oprah hypocrisy” but rather an “American hypocrisy” before she blasted the New York Times for hiring “lefty journalists to bash the Queen”.

But Piers insisted: “We know there are rifts in the Royal Family, when we see this footage of the four of them now, we know this footage is misleading.”

Which prompted Petronella to put it rather bluntly: “No, William and Harry hate each other’s guts, let’s be frank about it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the trio debated whether or not it was right for Harry to be banned from wearing a military uniform for the Queen’s funeral while Andrew is to be allowed.
