The famous talk show host interviewed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last year on March 7 as part of a two-hour CBS special. In a recent interview with Gayle King on the same channel, 68-year-old Oprah Winfrey spoke about the royal interview and the reaction to it.

Oprah admitted in the interview that she “was as surprised by the bombshell as everybody else”.

She revealed: “I was doing an interview to offer them a platform to tell their story about why they left, and that was my number one intention was just clarity on ‘why did you leave?”

The talk show host continued: “And so some of the things that were revealed in that interview came as a surprise to me and those surprises are now referred to as ‘bombshell’.

“But I didn’t set out to do a ‘bombshell’ interview. I set out to do an interview, have a conversation that would allow them to tell their story.”

Gayle then asked Oprah her opinion on Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship.

The journalist asked: “And now people say, ‘reconciliation, reconciliation, we hope the brothers reconcile’, what do you say?”

Oprah stated: “I do not get into people’s family matters.

“Everybody who has experienced some challenges in their families with in-laws or brothers or sisters knows how difficult some of those situations can be and I’m sure that you know for the Royal Family, it’s no different.”

Oprah added: “And nobody comes talks to me about their family business so I try and stay out of people’s family business!”

When CBS Morning cut back from the interview to the studio where Gayle King was presenting live, the journalist laughed and told her fellow presenters that: “And after that Oprah goes, ‘and Gayle that is the end of that interview!'” while laughing.

Last year, Oprah held a personal interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in which they discussed their reasoning for stepping down from royal duties in March 2020.

At one point, Meghan Markle said she wanted her son Archie to be given a royal title so he could be given police protection.

She said: “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time so we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”

The Duchess said the comments about her son’s skin colour were said to Prince Harry who replayed them to her.

Oprah asked Meghan Markle, who in the Royal Family had made the remark, but the Duchess refused to say and stated: “I think that would be very damaging to them.”

Prince Harry also refused to go further into detail about the comment, and said: “That conversation, I am never going to share.

“At the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

The Duke and Duchess and currently in the UK, and Prince Harry recently paid tribute to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

He paid tribute to the “everlasting grace” and “infectious smile” of the Queen and added: “Her unwavering grace and dignity remained true throughout her life and now her everlasting legacy.

“Let us echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now: ‘Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings’.”
