TalkTV presenter James Whale raged at the man who was arrested for rushing towards the Queen’s coffin as it was lying on the platform right in the middle of Westminster Hall. He defined the incident as “the most appalling thing to do” and, referring to the police officers who took the man away, he questioned why one of the guardsmen standing next to the Queen’s coffin did not make any move but waited for the police to intervene.
Speaking on TalkTV, Mr Whale said: “He has been arrested and taken away, the question I need to ask is ‘why on Earth wouldn’t a guardsman there with a sword be running towards him?’
“Probably [it would have been] a bit messy in front of all those people, but they must realise unfortunately that there are people who are going to behave in this appalling way.”
Referring to the incident, he said: “Just the most appalling thing to do, just the most appalling thing.
The man, who has been taken down by the police and let away from the Hall, appeared to make a run towards the Queen’s coffin.
Before heading towards the platform on which the late monarch’s coffin lies, the man could be seen pushing away other members of the public queueing to pay tribute to the Queen.
As the man approached the Queen’s coffin, police officers and officials ran towards him and took him away from the Hall.
It is unclear what his intentions were.
Met Police said: “At 22:00hrs on Friday 16 September officers from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command detained a man in Westminster Hall following a disturbance.
“He was arrested for an offence under the Public Order Act and is currently in custody.”

The incident happened around 10pm on Friday evening, the day King Charles and other members of the Royal family gathered in Westminster Hall to hold a brief vigil beside the Queen’s coffin.
As the man was taken down by the police, other members of the public could be seen reacting with shock to the incident.
A witness, whose seven-year-old niece was reportedly pushed aside by the man, told the Daily Mail: “A person decided they were going to push my seven-year-old niece out the way, run up to the coffin, lift up the standard and try to do I don’t know what. She was grabbed out the way and the police had him within two seconds.
“[It was] terrible, absolutely terrible, so disrespectful and unbelievable – and this poor little seven-year-old child, this is her lasting memory of the Queen”.
