Man Utd ready to secure 'next Cristiano Ronaldo' with lucrative five-year contract planned

Manchester United are working on a new contract for Alejandro Garnacho, just days after the 18-year-old was compared to a young version of team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo. The Argentine impressed as his side beat Sheriff 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night. And it appears as though the Red Devils are keen to keep hold of the teenager, who has attracted interest from Europe’s elite.

Garnacho was one of the best players on the pitch as United beat Sheriff courtesy of goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.

And, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are working hard when it comes to getting the youngster to sign a new deal.

Romano said on Twitter: “Work in progress to extend Alejandro Garnacho’s contract, negotiations have been ongoing for month.

“Manchester United have their new long-term deal proposal ready since June.”

United are reportedly planning to offer Garnacho a lucrative five-year contract in the hope he’ll stay at Old Trafford.

The Argentine has attracted interest from Real Madrid, while he’s also been linked with European giants such as Juventus and Barcelona as well.

But it seems as though United are confident of giving Garnacho a fresh deal, despite the fact his current contract runs until 2025.

The Argentine joined United from Atletico Madrid back in 2020, having caught the eye of club scouts during his time with the La Liga giants.

Garnacho propelled United to FA Youth Cup glory last term, netting twice in a 3-1 final victory over Nottingham Forest under the lights at Old Trafford.

And he was rewarded for some good performances in training with a first senior start against Sheriff, where he caught the eye with an exciting display.

Speaking while performing punditry duty for that showdown, former United star Paul Scholes compared Garnacho to a young Ronaldo.

“This crowd loves entertainment and this lad was really entertaining. Almost like a young Cristiano at this age,” he said.

“Taking the skill, taking the ball down as he did. I was impressed as some wingers can only go one way sometimes and he’s a right footed winger.

“Some say you can’t go down that left hand side but he did and it makes him so unpredictable. His performance was exciting and he really is one to look for the future.”

Garnacho has now made five appearances for United since being handed his debut by Ralf Rangnick last season.

And Ten Hag hailed his display against Sheriff, while insisting he’s turned things around after initially struggling to impress him.

“I think it was a good performance from him. He did what I expected him to do,” said the United boss.

“In the last weeks, he had a better attitude, more resilience, more determination and what you see is he is a talent to deal with the ball in tight areas, to run behind and especially also his tempo dribbles – he can take players on and that’s a good capability in his football.

“He deserved his chance, but there is still a lot of room for improvement, especially in the defending part, in the pressing part, in the counter press, in the defence transition.

“But you can see, in tight areas, he can find solutions.”

Owen Hargreaves, meanwhile, also hailed Garnacho for his impressive performance on his first United start.

The former midfielder stated: ”He was exceptional.

“The thing I liked about this performance was that he was direct, showed nice pieces of skill and tricks that had a little bit of function, he was just missing a goal or an assist.

“He was the most effective of all the front players, and I really enjoyed watching him.”
