The police have confirmed that one person has been killed in a fire at Formby, Merseyside. Five fire engines responded to the blaze at the scene. But the force have said the incident is not being treated with suspicion.

Emergency services were called around 6.45pm on January 3 to attend a home fire and police have now revealed more information on what happened at the address.

Two fire engineers originally arrived at the scene to help but three more came to provide breathing apparatus gear to fight the fire.

Firefighters left the area around 10.30pm and handed the initial incident to the police.

The North West Ambulance Service ambulance service were also present.

Now a week later, Merseyside Police have confirmed somebody died after a body was discovered in the house.

However, they added that the fire is not being treated as suspicious

A file has been passed onto the coroner’s office and no investigation into the incident has been opened.

They continued: “North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Police also attended. An initial two firefighters were committed to fight the fire in breathing apparatus (BA) with a hose reel jet and search the two storey detached house.

“An additional two firefighters in BA were deployed to the property with a further hose reel jet taking the total firefighters inside the property to four. The fire was extinguished soon after and ventilation of the property ensued.

“The scene was handed over to Merseyside Police and our crews left the scene at 10.27pm.”
