Liverpool will need to move fast if they want to beat the competition for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with the Magpies on high alert amid heavyweight suitors entering the frame. Jurgen Klopp is on the hunt for midfield reinforcements and has reportedly landed on Guimaraes after his stellar start to life at Newcastle.

Liverpool are growing increasingly in need of refreshing their midfield and will be among clubs in the market for a player in that area in 2023. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are expected to leave on free transfers at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson, 32, and Thiago Alcantara, 31, can’t be relied upon to play weekly, and it would be a surprise to see Arthur Melo’s loan extended. Klopp has worked with Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward to identify potential candidates to freshen up his ranks next term, and Guimaraes features on the shortlist.

According to Brazilian outlet TNT Sports, Liverpool have joined Chelsea and Real Madrid in showing interest in the 24-year-old. And Real have already enquired about his availability, prompting Newcastle to take action that could be make-or-break in hopes of luring him away from Tyneside next year.

The report claims Newcastle are readying a bumper new contract at St. James’ Park to try and fend off the high-profile interest in his signature. They are willing to offer the Brazilian maestro around £200,000 a week, making him the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

Guimaraes is under contract at Newcastle until 2026 but looks set to be rewarded with improved terms in response to his eye-catching start to life in English football. If he rejects an extension, it will pave the way for Liverpool and their rivals to launch their pursuit.

But the Reds may look to move quickly and even formulate an offer in January to prevent the risk of him agreeing new terms. Klopp will be keen to add a marquee name to his midfield department before the 2023/24 season after missing out on Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer.

Jude Bellingham is being strongly linked with a return to England amid his impressive exploits at Borussia Dortmund, with a switch to Anfield one of his leading options. But while there will likely be a tussle for his services next summer, Guimaraes could also be the subject of another, and Liverpool are primed to be involved in both.
