Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a restaurant in east London, an update from London Fire Brigade has said. Crewmembers were sent to Kingsland Road in Hackney and a social media update was posted alerting Londoners about the incident just after 4am.
Firefighters were called about the blaze at 2.47am and a clip circulated on Twitter from the area almost half an hour later.
The footage showed a number of firefighters and fire engines at the scene.
In a subsequent update, the capital’s fire brigade said: “Firefighters are tackling a fire at a restaurant with residential properties above it where part of the basement, first floor and second floor are alight.
“Around ten people left the property before the Brigade arrived.”

The fire was brought under control by 4.50am.
However, crewmembers will remain at the scene for the “next few hours to dampen down the area”.
The fire damaged part of the restaurant’s basement and the floors above the eatery.
London Fire Brigade added: “Fire crews from Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Shadwell and other fire stations in the surrounding area attended the scene.
It said: “May they all be safe. I can smell smoke.
“It’s definitely a fire. Flats on Kingsland Road near Shoreditch.”
