Cameroon have suffered a significant blow ahead of their crunch World Cup clash against Serbia, with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana removed from the squad due to disciplinary reasons. Rigobert Song has made a huge decision for the must-win Group G match, as both countries battle to stay in the winter tournament.
Around an hour before Cameroon face Serbia at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, multiple reports confirmed Onana’s absence. And it would appear that Song has taken a stand on the Inter ace’s attitude by removing him from contention altogether.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Onana told the Cameroon boss during a private discussion that he didn’t agree with the style of goalkeeper he wanted him to undertake. Song wants the 26-year-old to be more ‘traditional’, but he has no intention to change his style, and the situation has been described as ‘tense’.
COPE report that Onana isn’t just out of Cameroon’s squad against Serbia but has left the World Cup, period, after the spat. Samuel Eto’o attempted to mediate the row, but the No 1 deemed the issue ‘irreversible’ and has decided to step away from international duty in Qatar.

Devis Epassy has replaced Onana in the Cameroon starting line-up, earning just his sixth cap against Serbia in the Middle East. The 29-year-old plays club football at mid-table Saudi Professional League side Abha and made his international debut in a 0-0 friendly against Nigeria on June 8, 2021.
Epassy’s surprise inclusion over Onana is one of Song’s two changes from the 1-0 opening defeat against Switzerland last week. Pierre Kunde also enters the fray, replacing Samuel Oum Gouet in midfield. If Cameroon fall to another defeat on Monday, they will be the only Group G team without three points, with Brazil to face in MD3.
