Britons on the brink: Damning new statistics lay bare 95% explosion in UK shopping costs

An Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey has provided a damning assessment of the impact of the cost of living crisis, as a staggering proportion of people report they are struggling to get by.

A massive 91 percent of adults reported their cost of living had increased compared with a year ago.

Meanwhile, 73 percent reported it had gone up in just the last month.

The main reason given for this was primarily the price of food, which 95 percent of respondents said was driving their higher household spending, while skyrocketing gas or electricity bills were impacting 73 percent of respondents.

The ONS also stated that soaring energy bills had led to around 4 in 10 (44 percent) of adults saying they found it very or somewhat difficult to afford the expense in the latest period.

The stats are based on data collected between September 14 and 22 2022.
